The Federal Ministry of Education and Research supports the civil security research community by organising and staging events for networking and knowledge-sharing. They provide a forum for stakeholders from the research sphere, industry, authorities, organisations with a security role and other relevant ministries at the national and federal-state levels. One of the many merits of this set-up is that strategic partnerships can be formed early on and new ideas can be generated on how to ensure successful innovation transfer.
Information to the research projects can be found on this website. The projects are divided into the sections "Protection and rescue of people", "protection of critical infrastructure", "protection against crime and terrorism", "society and the economy" and "cross-cutting issues and activities".
From 2021 to 2027, Horizon Europe provides crucial impetus for research and innovation in Europe. Researchers in the field of civil security are invited to contribute by building research consortia that span Europe and bring new approaches and solutions to the areas of fighting crime and terrorism, protection of critical infrastructures, border management and for strengthening disaster resilience of European societies.
The civil security challenges of the future are not tied to national borders. In fact, they are often global in scale. To provide long-term protection for the public, the key goals of the “Research for civil security” framework programme include expansion of international research cooperation, involvement in the development of Europe’s security architecture and initiation and continuation of international research alliances.
